I did it. I sent the letter. I'm nervous.
Here is the letter that I sent to my manager and copied to the VP of Human Resources:
T/J,
I am writing today to resign from my position as customer service representative. I have found other employment that will be more flexible with my school schedule as it changes every semester and I am unable to meet the demands of the customer service department and the demands of my strict curriculum for school. I have been with D_____ for more than two years now and I have had the pleasure of working with some wonderful people in the customer service department. I could not have asked for a better team of people to work with over the last couple of years. I would like to say thank you for all of the opportunities that D_____ has offered me and I hope that as a company, all of the goals will be reached and exceeded like I know that they will thanks to all of the hard working dedicated individuals that make up the D_____ family.
In accordance with the D_____ employee handbook, I hereby give my two weeks notice. Due to the unique nature of my work schedule, my last day of work at D_____ will be Monday, February 20th as I do not typically work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays this semester.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me.
Thank you,
(my name)
Now I'm just scared that they'll call me. I am the non-confrontational type for sure so I don't like being approached about things. I texted the lady that I always work with on weekends. We've been working every Saturday and every Sunday for over 2 years together. I would feel bad if she just found out via a company-wide email! She hasn't replied yet. I'm afraid she's going to be pretty upset. We've spent a lot of time together at work and she even helped me change my tire on Christmas Eve this year when it went flat and we had to work. She's the exact same age as my grandma, only a couple of months younger but she is about to get her black belt in karate this coming fall and she goes to the gym most days of the week. She's pretty open minded and even watched and enjoyed Hot Tub Time Machine. She's not your typical older lady and is pretty open-minded and cool. I feel bad to leave her with someone else on the weekends but I think she will understand. She knows about the troubles that I have been having with work not being flexible with my school schedule. I'll write a separate post about that though.
